Connellsville and Scottdale, PA · Active Release Technique
Active Release Technique in Connellsville and Scottdale.
Hands held on the tissue while you move the limb. Both clinics do it, and here is what to expect before you book one.
Where active release technique is performed.
Active release technique is performed at the Connellsville clinic on W Crawford Avenue and at the Scottdale clinic on Crossroads Road. Whichever you choose, the same licensed physical therapist carries your visits rather than whoever happens to be free that afternoon.
One scheduling note before you call: this is hands-on work that takes therapist time, so it is booked into your regular visit rather than squeezed into the last five minutes. Both clinics open at 7am on Monday, Wednesday and Friday and run until 8pm on Tuesday and Thursday.

How does active release technique work?
Your therapist holds a specific point of tension while you move the joint through its range. The tissue slides under a fixed contact, and the adhesion limiting that glide gets worked out by the movement itself rather than by pressure alone.
Which is why you are not passive during it. You are asked to bend, straighten, or reach on cue. It is short, it is specific, and people usually describe it as uncomfortable in a productive way.
The people who end up here have generally been told to stretch it, have stretched it for months, and now want something aimed at why it will not stay stretched.
What active release technique helps with.
It suits problems where the tissue has stopped sliding: old scar tissue, repetitive load, and pain that shows up a joint away from its cause.
Elbow, wrist and hand pain ⟶
Forearm tissue that grips everything a little tighter than it should, all day long.
02Hip and knee pain ⟶
Restriction along the outside of the leg that turns up as knee pain a joint away.
03Sports injuries ⟶
Scar tissue from an old strain that keeps setting the same muscle up to tear again.
Adhesions do not resolve by waiting. They accumulate. The elbow that was merely annoying in June becomes the reason you quit something in November, and by then two other joints have changed to cover for it.
“Kings has been a great place for myself or anyone that needs to receive physical therapy. My physical results have been improved and the staff and therapist are a pleasure to work with.”Joseph K. · Patient review
Questions about active release technique.
Either. Both King clinics have licensed physical therapists who use the technique, so the honest answer is to book the one where you will actually keep your appointments. Connellsville is (724) 628-7288 and Scottdale is (724) 887-4181.
The initial evaluation runs about 90 minutes, and follow-up visits are typically 60. That first appointment is mostly testing and history, because there is no sense releasing tissue before anyone has established which tissue is the problem.
It can be uncomfortable while the contact is held, the way a deep and very specific pressure is uncomfortable. It should not be something you brace through. Say where you are on that line and the pressure changes, which is easy when the visit is one-on-one.
Start with the evaluation that finds the restriction.
Put it in writing.
Six short questions. A real person calls you back, usually within two business hours, with times that fit your week.
The people who end up filling this out are rarely in the worst pain of their life. They’re just done working around it, done picking the errand that doesn’t require the stairs. If that’s the stage you’re at, this is the part where you stop researching and start.
Consider it filed.
