Sit Up Straight!
By: Mark King, MPT, CSCS CPT and
Matthew King, DPT, CSCS “Sit Up Straight” is a phrase that everyone has probably heard at some point in their life time. Well, it is a good habit to adopt. Almost 100% of our daily activities are performed directly in front of us. By constantly having your shoulders rounded and your head forward you are asking your postural muscles to work harder and causing your anterior chest muscles to tighten. Over time this can lead to cervical spine disorders, thoracic outlet syndrome, and shoulder disorders, just to name a few. At King Physical Therapy and Fitness we will develop a rehabilitation program to strengthen your postural muscles (including your rhomboid major and minor, middle trapezius, lower trapezius, teres minor and major, infraspinatus, and latissimus dorsi) and to passively and actively stretch your anterior chest and neck musculature (including pectoralis major and minor, scalene muscles, and upper trapezius). We will instruct you in a Home Exercise Program to assist you in maintaining the benefits that you receive from your therapy with us. Most Major Insurances Accepted.

By: Mark King, MPT, CSCS CPT and
Matthew King, DPT, CSCS
Do you have incidents of your back “going out”, difficulty returning to standing following bending forward, gardening, lifting, or increased spring cleaning activities? If so, the underlying cause may be lumbar spinal instability. Lumbar instability is the result of weakened abdominal muscles, primarily in the transverse abdominis, decreased flexibility throughout your pelvis and lower extremities, and improper body mechanics.
At King Physical Therapy & Fitness our highly trained therapists will examine you for the possible causes of lumbar spinal instability and a unique and highly specific therapy program to focus on your exact limitations will follow. So don’t suffer with low back pain any longer and come to one of our two locations. P.S. By attending physical therapy at King Physical Therapy & Fitness you will be treated like a member of our family and receive first class physical therapy.

Who Are "Physical Therapists?"
By: Mark King, MPT, CSCS CPT and
Matthew King, DPT, CSCS
Physical
Therapists (PT) are medical professionals that are experts in
recognizing and treating individuals with movement and functional
disorders. They are highly trained to evaluate an individual with an
impairment and distinguish the body tissue involved to develop a proper
treatment regimen to combat the ailment. Physical Therapists may also
recognize medical issues that are not able to be treated conservatively
and require a referral to other medical professionals. Not only do they
deal with bodily impairments, but also with programs to prevent
injury and loss of movement. All physical therapists must complete a
college degree program followed by a rigorous post-graduate degree
program at an established university or college. At King Physical
Therapy & Fitness you will encounter medical professionals that
take their job very seriously. You will receive the most current and
proven physical therapy available. We will provide a friendly atmosphere
to help you enjoy returning to better health. Please stop in and meet
our amazing staff.
| | March 2010Preventing Falls in Older Adults
By: Mark King, MPT, CSCS CPT and
Matthew King, DPT, CSCS
The
Center for Disease Control and Prevention reports that one in three
persons age 65 and older fall each year and eighty-seven percent of all
fractures among older adults are due to falls. This is a serious
concern for anyone over the age of 65 or anyone with a family member or
friend 65 or older. At King Physical Therapy & Fitness we
can develop an individualized program to specifically meet your needs
whether it be improving strength, improving balance, improving
flexibility, developing safe transfer techniques or giving you tips in
making your environment safer. We have evaluation tests & measures
that can predict your current risk for falling including BERG balance
test, Timed Up and Go, and gait speed-testing just to name a few. These
tests help us to show objective improvement and your decreasing risk of
falling. P.S. Two-thirds of those who experience a fall will
fall again within six months, so don’t hesitate to come and see us at
King Physical Therapy & Fitness. February 2010Are You Dizzy?
By: Mark King, MPT, CSCS CPT and
Matthew King, DPT, CSCS
Do
you experience dizziness or lightheadedness when you roll over in bed,
look-up, lay down, or bend over? If so you may be experiencing a
condition called Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV). In BPPV,
crystals or otoconia are displaced into the ears semi-circular canals
and cause dizziness, especially with head movements. At King
Physical Therapy & Fitness our therapists can abolish your symptoms
of dizziness caused by BPPV in as little as one visit. Our therapists
can perform a Dix-Hallpike maneuver to test your posterior and anterior
semi-circular canals followed by an Epley’s maneuver to reposition the
crystals for re-absorption. If the crystals are in the horizontal
semi-circular canal the horizontal roll test will reposition the
crystals for re-absorption. Either way we can help you. P.S.
BPPV will most likely re-occur, so don’t suffer and come see us at King
Physical Therapy & Fitness immediately. January 2010
